Swans Arrive at Stockley Park

19.03.20

This week we have been delighted to spot a pair of mute swans exploring the habitats around the lakes. The male (the cob) is slightly larger and bulkier than the female (the hen), and has a larger, more prominent black bulb on his beak.

Swans will look for sheltered and secure places to build their nests in April / May. They use grasses, reeds and thicker marginal vegetation to construct their nests.

They will often begin one nest and then change their minds for a better location. We hope that this year they decide to make Stockley Park their home and we can spot some signets later in the season.
