Pond Dipping Results are in!

04.07.25

Earlier this year, we took part in the Freshwater Habitats Trust Pond Dip, and the results are in! Our latest survey of Stockley Park’s ponds revealed a thriving world of freshwater life, offering both an exciting educational opportunity and valuable insights into local biodiversity.

What is a Pond Dip?
A pond dip is a fun, hands-on survey that helps identify the types of invertebrates and other creatures living in a pond. This not only gives us a fascinating peek at hidden wildlife but also provides an overall pond health score that guides future habitat management.

What Did We Find?
Among the highlights:

🐛 Damselfly Larvae – A great sign of clean water.

🐉 Dragonfly Nymphs (seen in the photo to the right) – Indicate a balanced ecosystem.

🦎 Smooth Newts – Showing that amphibian life is thriving.

These discoveries help us measure the quality of our freshwater habitats and ensure we’re supporting the right conditions for wildlife to flourish.

Why It Matters
Healthy ponds are crucial for biodiversity. By tracking the presence of different species, we’re better equipped to protect and improve our natural spaces.
